Move Young Longer
Everywhere A Barre
I don’t believe in aging. We can’t stop chronologically aging, but we can prevent that number defining and/or restricting our movement or quality of life. I do a lot to keep my body moving young - and you can too!
I am 61 in this photo taken at the Griffith .Observatory. Yes studying dance helped me become strong and limber, but it was pilates and yoga that kept me that way long after I stopped dancing. There are little things, simple things that can keep your joints mobile.
Now that I am teaching pilates again, I incorporate exercises that focus on balance, alignment and strength. I love the foam roller for upper body release and discovering muscle imbalances. The large exercise ball is great for building strength as well as balance. Therapy strips are helpful for support and for strengthening. Small rubber balls relax tense foot muscles and open up the toes. At home you can use a wall to connect core muscles as you work on alignment. Improve foot strength and balance by placing a hand towel flat on the floor, then scrunch it from flat towel into a loose roll with your toes.
